Many of these student-athletes have full-ride athletic scholarships that cover their tuition and fees, course-related books, and room and board. What's more, landing an athletic scholarship often isn't enough to fully pay for one's college education. While 2% of high-school athletes receive an athletic scholarship, Strasman said only about 1% receive a full-ride scholarship that fully covers expenses like tuition, books, and room and board. While any scholarship money is better than none, there's no guarantee those funds will be there all four years. "I would say likely the kids that have the biggest paydays that we're hearing about are often already on scholarship," Strasman said.

A judge recently voided Elon Musk's $55 billion compensation package at Tesla. The lawyers had earlier convinced the Delaware chancery court to revoke Musk's $56 billion pay package from 2018, with the judge ruling that Tesla's board of directors failed to prove it was fair to shareholders. The lawyers represent former heavy metal drummer Richard Tornetta, who filed the suit on behalf of his fellow Tesla investors. The lawyers are asking for just over 11% of the Tesla shares that would have gone to Musk, or slightly more than 29.4 million shares. Taking their pay in Tesla shares demonstrates they are prepared to "eat our cooking," the lawyers wrote. Musk's pay package was the largest ever disclosed in corporate America, according to Delaware Chancery Court Judge Kathaleen McCormick's 200-page ruling.

Hospitals in recent years have shifted their use of online technology to support everything from telehealth to medical devices to patient records. Brett Callow, an analyst for the cybersecurity firm Emsisoft, counted 46 cyberattacks on hospitals last year, compared with 25 in 2022. The dramatic increase in these online raids has prompted the nation’s top health agency to develop new rules for hospitals to protect themselves from cyber threats. The attacks can put hospitals’ networks offline for weeks or months, forcing hospitals to turn away patients. In Chicago, Lurie hospital’s network has been offline for two weeks.

Malkani served as the league's senior vice president of global media distribution from 2008 to 2015, focusing on digital and media rights. She explained how athletes will be impacted by the next NBA rights deal, as the value of sports rights skyrockets against the backdrop of crumbling regional sports networks and pay-TV bundles. "Beyond Utopia" attracted interest at Sundance from streamers like Amazon's Prime Video and Netflix. Interest peaked four years ago at the Sundance Film Festival, fueled by Amazon and Netflix, which paid a record $10 million for the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez doc "Knock Down the House." In the crime realm, WME advised, Netflix was seeking films based on big, well-known cases and scams like "Dahmer" and "Tinder Swindler." Filmmakers point to streamers' self-censorship and 'cold feet' over sensitive topicsSome filmmakers said there are still champions at the streamers for documentaries that push the envelope. After doing some research and calculations, we realized a combination of investing and paying off our mortgage early would give us the more flexible lifestyle we had in mind. We have not had a car payment in five years. It led us to paying off our mortgage early, which has allowed us both to choose more fulfilling work and spend more time with our daughters.
